All our cosmetic products are designed and manufactured in France. Our natural formulation laboratory is located in the French Cosmetic Valley, an hour outside of Paris.
At Caudalie, we believe in cosmetics that are effective, natural, sustainable and sensorial.
We prioritize natural-origin, fair trade and/or environmentally friendly ingredients in accordance with our sustainable “Cosm-ethics” formulation charter.
As such, we are constantly improving these formulas to optimize their effectiveness and make them even more natural.
Not all Caudalie products are certified organic, but Caudalie prioritizes natural-origin and organic ingredients.
Caudalie has created its own strict and sustainable “Cosm-ethics” charter:
You will not find any parabens, phenoxyethanol, phthalates, mineral oils, sodium laureth sulfate or animal-derived ingredients in our products. Caudalie is making its standards even higher by refraining from using over 27 undesirable ingredients.
Since its inception, Caudalie has opposed animal testing. None of our products or the ingredients we use are tested on animals, in compliance with European regulations. We employ alternative methods to test our ingredients and finished products.
However, in China, where our products are sold, authorities may require animal testing for certain "special use" products like anti-stain treatments. We are strongly committed to ending these tests and believe in acting rather than criticizing. This is why we have been advocating for years with the Chinese government to allow alternative testing methods.
Additionally, we do not use any ingredients of animal origin, except for beehive products such as honey and beeswax.
Since 2012, founders Mathilde and Bertrand Thomas have pledged to donate 1% of Caudalie's sales to environmental organizations. This initiative aims to preserve, restore, and enhance trees and forests. Over 12 years, Caudalie has funded the planting of 12 million trees, promoting biodiversity by supporting the development and maintenance of habitats for numerous living species.
Most of our face care products have been tested to demonstrate that they are non-comedogenic, which means that they do not promote the appearance of blackheads. These products have the words "non-comedogenic" on the package.
All our formulas have proven stability before opening of 48 months minimum.
The PAO, or Period After Opening, generally varies between 6 months to 24 months. This period is indicated on the packaging of all our products (in the form of an open jar symbol with a number and the letter "M").
The vast majority of products are vegan because we do not use animal-derived ingredients.
The only non-vegan products are those containing honey, such as the Crushed Cabernet Scrub, French Kiss, Lip Conditioner, Premier Cru The Cream and the Gentle Buffing Cream.
Caudalie has not developed a specific range for babies (under 3) or children (from age 3 to teenagers). As a precaution, we prefer not to recommend that Caudalie products be used on children.
The yellow ring that forms atop the liquid in the Beauty Elixir bottle is the beloved essential oil blend we use in our product. The color can change from time to time depending on the harvest of the plant extracts, and the oils derived from 100% ingredients are of natural origin.
This product is recommended to be shaken to mix the oils and the liquid before using.
Caudalie has been working for over 25 years on how to safely and effectively use essential oils to guarantee results and tolerance by even the most sensitive clients. At our new laboratory of natural formulation, we have partnered with top doctors and dermatologists to run clinical studies on this product.
Certain Caudalie products have been specifically tested on sensitive skin to minimize the risk of reaction and soothe the most reactive skin. If your skin is very sensitive, we recommend that you consult your dermatologist before use.
Before being put on the market, all our products undergo numerous quality, tolerance and effectiveness tests under dermatological control, by an independent laboratory approved by the French Ministry of Health.
Below is the list of products that contain essential oils:
As a precaution, in the early months of pregnancy and when breastfeeding, we recommend avoiding products with essential oils. These include the Beauty Elixir, all of the products in the Vinopure range, the Vinergetic C+ Instant Detox Mask, the Vinosource-Hydra Overnight Recovery Face Oil, and the Vinosculpt Crushed Cabernet Scrub.
